The Accounting Specialist provides financial and administrative support to the organization.  The primary responsibility of this position is to manage, and process accounts payable transactions, assist in accounts receivable management and processing, and provide support to Student Accounts.  Systems frequently used include Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains, Microsoft Excel, and PowerCampus.

Primary Functions

Completes payments by receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices and internal check requests

Pays vendors by monitoring discount opportunities, verifying federal ID numbers, scheduling and preparing checks

Processes electronic payments

Coordinates with Student Accounts in the identification of student refunds and troubleshooting of related issues, and reconciliation of student accounting

Processes student refunds by creating invoices, verifying student data, preparing checks, and issuing credit card refunds

Manages electronic Purchase Order system

Resolves purchase order, invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation issues

Assists with staff credit card management and reconciliation

Additional Functions

Completes Assists other Business Office and Student Accounts staff as needed with reconciliation and accounting issues

Assists the Business Office with Collections efforts

Ideal Qualifications

3 years progressively responsible general accounting experience

Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains experience or similar accounting system proficiency

Strong understanding of accounting principles

Ability to meet deadlines and work accurately under pressure

Highly detailed and organized, excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Excel

Proactive, independent, and ability to problem-solve creatively

Experience working in a higher education environment or PowerCampus experience a plus

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments
