Kent Employment Solutions is kicking off a new Controller recruitment today! We seek a solid financial leader to take the reins from the retiring Head of F&A who has been with the practice from the beginning for this thriving NW Independent Medical Practice, Columbia Anesthesia Group.

The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, and a minimum of 5 years of senior-level accounting and financial leadership working with a small to midsized growing professional services firm.  Experience with complex commissions structure and multistate payroll expertise required.  This hands-on F&A leadership role, not one of pure oversite, is ideally suited for someone who loves continuous improvement.

Reporting to the President, the Controller is fully responsible for all day-to-day finance and accounting functions, taxation, and reporting, as well as continuous improvements and forecasting.  The Controller manages a small team consisting of an accounting clerk, billing liaison, and a payroll/HR specialist (who you will help hire).  The Controller is also responsible for special projects, cross-training, and increasing internal controls.

Three near term project goals include:

  • Identifying a financial institution better aligned with company values and changing all business banking relationships
  • Modernize the AP reimbursement process with a focus on both ease and accuracy
  • Streamline compensation calculations, and reduce overall payroll processing time

  DAY to DAY

  • Oversee all accounting and financial functions, close process, including budgets, financial reporting, tax, and audit
  • Supervise AP/AR and billing functions
  • Prepare complex spreadsheets detailing production, revenue, overhead, and other data
  • Manage and process payroll (until you identify and onboard the right Payroll Specialist), including multifaceted compensation formulas from eight or more revenue streams
  • Perform monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations of bank and credit card accounts; review financial reports/support as necessary
  • Calculate and track benefits including HSA, healthcare, and 401K deferrals
  • Prepare and report on financial status, including income statement variances
  • Maintain regular communication with bankers, investment advisors, custodians of company funds, regulators, and auditors
  • Assess financial performance, develop long-range financial plans, and establish company-wide financial and administrative objectives, policies, programs, and practices
  • Maintain a current understanding of GAAP and State and Federal Statutory reporting requirements.
  • Manage all aspects of internal and external audits

Necessary Qualifications, Experience, & Qualities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration
  • 5+ years finance/Accounting leadership experience in similar relevant industries such as Architecture/Engineering, Private Practice Legal (Law Firm), Medical, Dental, or Professional Consulting Services
  • Proven payroll proficiency, with an emphasis on streamlining to reduce time to calculate compensation from 5 days while still ensure the utmost accuracy
  • Exemplary history of financial project management
  • Leadership experience, Mentor, and coach
  • Robust working knowledge of finance and regulatory standards (GAAP)
  • Strong understanding of economic and banking processes.
  • Ability to drive process continuous improvements, streamlining and improving accuracy simultaneously
  • Experience managing banking, insurance, investment, audit, and regulatory relationships, policies, and practices
  • Superior analytical skills and attention to detail, Excel skills, and automated ERP such as SAGE or similar software
  • Positive, Accountable, and Authentic demeanor
    • A CPA is preferred but not required
